9th Grade Literature
Digital Learning Weeks
Good Morning! Welcome to the world of online learning! I have set up two platforms that you will need to join/follow in order to keep up with your assignments. This is not a vacation. You will be held accountable for assignments given.
If you have not already, join GOOGLE classroom. This is where I will post assignments. The first week is already posted. They did not add in order, so do Monday first, then Tuesday, and so on. The code for our class is tpp65k3. You MUST sign in using your Wheeler email: [email protected]. The password is your lunch number whs (lower case). When you have completed your assignments you can either save them for our return or you can text a picture of your completed work to 678-592-0823. I have also set up a REMIND account and sent invitations to you all. Text 81010 and message daea8gc. I will send short reminders there.

Week of March 10
We will be practicing elements of writing a narrative this week in preparation for writing your own narrative. As I have repeatedly stated, please continue to give your best in all of the little assignments daily. It really adds up.
IN PREPARATION FOR REMOTE LEARNING SHOULD IT BE NEEDED, I have set up a google classroom account. We will go to the media center to set up your google account. Should there be a need for remote learning, this is the site to access your daily assignments. To access the textbook go to http://www.cobbk12.org/centraloffice/learningresources/digitaltextbooks.aspx.
Week of March 3
We will be attempting several different approaches this week to support your vocabulary learning. I will do my part to present the words in multiple formats, but you must also do your part and study outside of class time. Vocabulary does not go away; you will have vocabulary all the way through 12th grade. Our main objective for this week is to complete the "Marigolds" 1 pager. Do not blow this off. It is a major summative grade. Take your time. Do your best.
Week of February 24
I will give out progress reports this week. We will discuss how to bring up grades and in what category you need the most points. One weak point in several grades was in vocabulary quizzes. Be sure to practice multiple times per week. If you would like to retake any quizzes, please set a time with me to do so. I am also available before and after school most days if you'd like additional help on anything. Just let me know 2 days in advance, please, so that I may plan.
Week of February 10
The end of this week is the end of the first 6 week grading period. I have spoken to each of you who owe me assignments. I would like to have those turned in by Thursday so that they can be added to the gradebook. Tuesday the 11th will be the Unit 1 Assessment. Review the parts of an argumentative essay and the 3 types of rhetorical appeals to prepare. I would also encourage more preparation for vocabulary quizzes, as well as, completing the vocabulary homework. The homework benefits you in 2 ways. The first is that you have the potential to gain points on your quiz. The second is that more exposure to the words helps with retention.
Week of January 28
We have been working on the parts of a persuasive essay. As we finish up the week, we will have a graphic organizer completed. Next week we will start writing your essay. This is a unit grade; please do your best. Make sure you are reviewing vocabulary daily. I entered your grade for Bell Ringers and Journal Entries. Some of you did not have as many entries as days we have been in school. Please be more diligent to get those done!
Vocabulary test and homework- Due Friday the 31st
Week of January 21
Today vocabulary quizzes will be returned. The results of the first quiz were disappointing. I cannot emphasize enough that students must prepare at home in addition to exercises done in class. All of these regular formative grades have the ability to positively or negatively impact final grades. Please invest a little time at home. This week will be an introduction to the elements of an argumentative essay. Students will be assessed through a summative essay at the end of the unit.
Week of January 6
This week we will be getting acquainted with one another and establishing class expectations. Students will complete a name acrostic for a first grade. This will provide a baseline for instruction.
The first unit of vocabulary will be introduced. Your first vocabulary quiz will be on Friday the 17th. There will be repeated exposure to the words in class, however, the expectation is that students will review the words at home as well.
